At Mooroolbark East Primary School, we have developed a wellbeing curriculum aligned with the Victorian Curriculum to support students’ emotional, social and academic development. These units were created by our Learning Specialist and School Psychologist to ensure they reflect best practice in student wellbeing. Student voice has been an important part of this process. Through student surveys, we gathered feedback about the areas where students felt they needed greater support, helping to shape the focus of our lessons. Our wellbeing units provide age-appropriate learning experiences that build across each year level and promote consistent language, strategies and approaches across the school community. The units incorporate elements of the Respectful Relationships program, with students exploring topics such as emotional literacy, coping and regulation strategies, help-seeking, problem solving, personal strengths, friendship skills and respectful communication. Through engaging weekly lessons, students develop empathy, manage their emotions, build healthy relationships and learn positive ways to navigate challenges. These skills support our students to grow into confident, caring and respectful members of our school community.
