At Mooroolbark East we have a reading intervention program that is targeted at Grade 1 and 2. At the end of the year all levels, including Prep, complete a reading test from the benchmark kit; Fountas and Pinnell. If a child does not achieve this benchmark in Prep they are referred to and receive extra attention through the intervention program. Classroom teachers can also recommend students to this program. This program is delivered by Janie Turton.
We also have other intervention programs for other levels within our school, including a STAR program for students from Grades 2-6. This program is delivered by Amanda Antonellos and Dianne Farrelly. This program is supervised by our Speech Pathologist.
As well we have a Jolly Phonics group for Grades 3-6. This program is designed for students that still have issues decoding reading. (See below for the MEPS Intervention program.)
